Some advice re credit card/ATOL

I am in the process of booking Round the world tickets with a outstanding balance to pay of around £2,500. However, the option is to book under by debit card with no charge but the company is ATOL protected or I thought it might be better to pay under credit card for extra security however there is 2% charge which works out to £50 for this. I have the money available and as I need funds for my travels dont want to waste £50 for nothing. However, I wasnst sure if it was still worth it to get the extra protection.

I have to phone to pay tomorrow so any advice would be grateful as I just dont know what to do.

Thanks

  • Pay £10 on the credit card and the rest on your debit card.
  • If you're taking out insurance, you might find you are better covered under that anyway.

Yes, paying just £10 would get you protection for the whole transaction - but only if the deal is still one transaction. (Sounds like it is.)

Yes the £10 will cover you, but only if you are booking direct with the airline and it's the airline that goes bust.

If you are booking through a travel agent and the TA goes bust you will be covered, but if you are paying the TA and the airline goes bust then you won't be covered as the airline is a third party.
  • DONT know how to post a new thread, need to know my rights regarding COURT FUNDS - currently holding compensation money (£7.000) in a court funds account until she is 18 (she is 9 now) The interest rate is 0.5% Went to county court about putting it in higher interest account, judge refused. Do i have any rights?

Interesting, I've heard this before so the OP should take note.

I wonder if it would survive being tested in court (perhaps it's been tried). The TA is acting as an agent for the airline - so really the airline isn't a 3rd party, it is the contracting party. True the merchant agreement is with the agent and not the airline, but I'm not sure it's relevant.

It's something to do with the TA providing the ticket, but not the actual flight.
