30 day free trial with AVG now ended

My 30 day free trial with AVG has now ended and my computer is unprotected...is there any way to get free protection without constantly signing up for 30 day free trials?

Download Free AVG from their website and you can use it for as long as you like. I've been doing so for years.

When they upgrade it, you have to watch the dialog box as the option to continue with it for Free (as opposed to Paid upgrade) is always the smaller option, and harder to see without the magnifying glass.

Just use the free version of AVG. Alternatively, AntiVir Personal is free and isn't as resource-intensive as AVG...

The computing gods have saved you. Uninstall that heinous pile of garbage and put on Microsoft Security Essentials or Avast! Home edition instead.

If you don't mind your computer being p0wned, you could always put AVG free on but it doesn't fare well in AV tests.

Make sure windows firewall is switched on (Assuming you were using the very poor AVG firewall) when you remove it

  • I agree with Hammyman and would recommend Microsoft Security Essentials (not got experience of any others but it has served me well so far).

+1 vote for Avira, Avast or Microsoft Security Essentials.

+1 vote on AVG being an ineffectual pile of junk and you'll be lucky if you've not picked up a virus in the last 30 days. I suggest getting a more reliable AV onto your system ASAP (ie one vaguely likely to protect you from viruses and malware -don't forget to use the AVG removal tool)
