Samsung Galaxy S? A word of warning...

Anyone thinking of trying out one of these phones be warned. Samsung have shipped some of these models with the recovery buttons disabled. This means that should anything go wrong while updating (i.e computer crashing etc) your phone will brick and there is absolutely no way of restoring it because the restore buttons are disabled.
Your PC will not pick up the fact that the phone is connected so there is nothing you can do other than stare angrily at your £400 brick.
You will then face either a 3 week wait while T Mobile sort it out, or you can go directly to Samsung who will run you round in circles while trying to decide how best to proceed.
Irony being this is/was OH's phone who swapped an iphone 3GS for it. Had this have happened with Apple it would have been sorted by now.

Really I thought all apple did was call the fault a new feature slag off other companies and give you a free bumper for it "fixing" the problem.0

Could have taken it into Genuis and been given a replacement. As it stands we have a useless 3 week old phone and a lot of people pi$$ing about over how best to proceed.
Samsung meanwhile are happily saying nothing about why recovery buttons are disabled, although I did managed to get one CSA to admit that Samsung know there is a problem.0 -
I'd be telling T-Mobile to get you a working phone or you'll be returning it and cancelling the contract, 3 weeks doesn't seem reasonable use to me, and since its a known fault they should be replacing it straight away.0

Ahh but they wont admit its a known fault, and as we are now past the 14 days they are within their rights to offer a repair. Only thing is having researched there is nothing they can do other than replace the phone. It was a toss up over who could get it turned around the quickest and T Mobile said in all honesty Samsung probably could.
Its a sad day for anyone who likes playing around with android though. If the replacement comes back with disabled buttons its ebay bound.0 -
Well, "Liam" at Samsungs Indian Call Center promised me faithfully that someone would call "tomorrow morning" about the exchange. Have they? Nope.
I'm about to call their Customer Service line again (a bit of an ironic title really given that in 4 phone calls now I haven't actually received any service as such) But all in all can I reiterate, dont bother with bloody samsung.0 -
Or t-mobile either!0

When I got my G1 repaired the guy in the shop told me it will take 2 weeks. And it took exactly one day less. I was very happy with the service as it was my fault and they repaired it without problems.
If you're lucky your shop can give you a simple replacement phone for the time your's is for repair.0 -
Apples update 3.0 bricked my ipod about 2 months after I bought the thing, luckily Amazon took it back at their expense. But this is about Samsung, shame that they have done that, maybe it was a fault the reset button worker was off for 10 mins having a baby before she went back on the production line, so the few 1000 she would have done in those 10 mins got missed.Survey earnings total 2009 £417, 2010 £875, 2011 £5740

Well I spent another half hour going round in circles.
"T Mobile will replace it there and then under SOG" she tells me. No, they wont I say, its 3 weeks old, best they will offer is a repair and by their own admittance Samsung can fix it quicker.
"we cant replace the phone until we have repaired it three times" But dont you understand what I am saying? This known fault renders the phone irreparable, you wont be able to repair it once let alone 3 times!! YOUR designated repair centre tell me they cant repair it and to call you and tell you its an "early life failure", yet you wont accept this!
Finally I get an English call centre who actually understand what I'm trying to say, finally they have agreed to send a bag for the phone to be returned for "repair".... YOU CANT REPAIR IT ARRRGHHHHHHHHHH (and breathe)
So there we have it. A major competitor in the smart phone market fails miserably on customer service. As they have designated repair centres all over the UK they could, I'm sure, operate a business model like Apple with its Genius Bar. But no, rather than that they have you calling India and promising you the earth and giving you nothing.
I think when it comes back its being sold in favour of an iphone 4.0
