Moving from Job Seekers to In Capacity

Hi there
My son has been out of work for a few months now claiming Job Seekers allowance. He has now been diagnosed with a prolapsed disk which will require surgery. After this surgery he will be unable to work for a period of 8 weeks. Can he claim InCapacity Benefit rather than Job Seekers Allowance and if so is it worth his while? Thanks for any information you can provide me.
Regards
Billy
