Question

I promised my daughter I would buy her the Disney film Beauty and the Beast but when I went to the shops I discovered it's not available. I've checked on ebay and there are people selling it - some say they are imported and others don't specify. Will these be genuine DVD's or dodgy copies - is there any way of knowing?

Thanks

  • some things you can look out for are sellers offering "region free" discs, or stating they'll be sent in a clear plastic wallet.

This isn't fool proof, but is a start

    Some which look genuine..

Edit/ Amazon sell it £4.50 on VHS (If you're old like me and still use your VHS :) )

  • That one is not Disney.

It seems play.com do have lots of disney boxsets coming out next week - perhaps they would be good to have a look at OP?

  • My bad... I searched for 'Disney beauty and the beast' and it obviously found that one because it had 'Not Disney' in the title. Curse those keyword spammers!

  • It's not listed on Disney's website so I think I was correct about it not being available yet.

  • My husband bought this for me when it was unavailable, I think he got it off Amazon but the cost on DVD was quite high because of it being unavailable at the time.

The reason the price was " quite high" is because he bought you a pirate i.e. illegal copy of an unreleased dvd..........d'oohhh.

It doesn't take a genius to realise that if Disney haven't released it...then it's illegal!!

Can you get a VHS instead? Those were released and even I have one.

Does anyone know if The Little Mermaid is on DVD? I would love a copy and missed the VHS release. I love all technology old and new!

Disney seem to have an interesting take on DVD release - rather than keeping their whole range of films out all the time (with the risk that it will get remaindered or discounted) they tend to only have limited releases for their "big films" after which they are deleted, only to be reissued again some time later - that way that can keep charging "full price" for them and maintain some kind of "Premium" status. This doesn't seem to apply so much to their direct-to-video stuff.

So there are legal copies of "Beauty and the Beast" out there (a "collectors edition" IIRC)...
