car insurance claim effects on no claims discount

Hi, does anyone know whether I should call my insurance company up about a break in. The car is not worth much and I don't want to have a detrimental effect on my NCD - I'd rather scrap the car rather than take a hit on my NCD.

In peoples experience - are insurance companies quite open to discussion on what the best option is for me in this situation or will they do things by the book when I phone them up and tell them what happened?

Bit of background - car worth about £700, got broken into, the steering lock is broken, screwdriver hole in the passenger door, and the cd player is gone.

I just want to do the thing that will incur least cost to me - whether that is just scrapping the car - leaving my NCD intact, or claiming on the damage, having it fixed and selling the car.

any help much appreciated

You need to deduct your excess from the £700 to see whether it's worth claiming.

If you have full NCD you will just go down 2 years.

Check your policy - some are considered "paid up" when the car is written off (ie the policy is closed), others continue to the normal renewal date allowing you to change the car covered for your replacement.
