Unfair bank charges

I have decided to sit down and work out all the bank charges that have come off my account, works out about £800 so did the letter to my bank and received a letter back saying they are entitled to take these charges etc etc. I then got a leaftlet titled Addressing your complaint. which advises me to write to the banks customer relations manager, do I contact them or keep on at my branch? Would appreciate any help regarding this as Im not very lucky in life and dont feel very optimistic about getting my money back!
