Short break on my own in Nov?

I'm looking to take a short break at the beginning of November, on my own. Ideally I'd love to go somewhere reasonably warm, just a bit of sun... I plan to read and see some sites, nothing too adventurous.

I've looked on Expedia and Lastminute but everything is based on 2 adults, and quite expensive. I'm not too bothered where I go, but preferably for 3 or 4 nights, self catering or B&B and not too expensive, say around £250...

Does anyone have any good sites I can look at?

Thanks :)

Mercury Direct has quite a few hotels with no single supplements.

If you look for package deals then you will find that they are typically designed for a couple. The way to do it is look for flight + hotel deals. Try looking on the airline sites, BA, EasyJet etc for city offers (depending on your airport preference)

Another trick for booking hotels when travelling solo is to search for rooms for 2 adults. If you specify one person then you will often be only offered a single room. Most hotels don't have many single rooms and they are usually in the worst part of the hotel. By searching for two people you will get the double rooms. I hate sleeping in single beds!

As for where... Lisbon is good. Similar feel to Barcelona but much cheaper and lots of interesting countryside around and about. Had a look on Expedia are there are lots of 4 night flight+hotel combos to Lisbon for less than £250. Some less than £200.

Thanks that's great Doshwaster, I will take a look at what you suggest... Less than £200 would be fab!! :)
  • I go on hols on my own quite a lot, if you aren't too set on a location keep an eye on the budget airlines sales then book accomodation seperate. It usually saves a fair bit of money rather than going through a travel agent.

Found some good deals on Expedia for Lisbon, but only for 2 persons... when I do 1 person searches it comes up more expensive and with a single room. How do I get these deals as a single person?! So frustrating!

remember that when you do a search for two people, Expedia displays the price per person.

    Try this:

    1) Go to search for Flight + hotel
    2) From LON to LIS (LON includes all London airports)
    3) Enter dates. Let's say 5-9 Nov.
    4) One adult
    5) Search
    6) Sort by price. Lots of deals under £250

First in the list is a trip from Gatwick on EasyJet, stopping in the Hotel Praia do Sol for £160. If I select "choose a different flight" the cheapest on BA from LHR s £205 and on TAP from Gatwick for £181. Remember EZY charge for checked luggage. BA don't.

For the first trip, select "choose and continue" I can see a choice of booking a single room, a double for £3 a night more or half board options.

I booked a room In lisbon for 1 person on Laterooms.com last year and had a double bed all to myself (4 nights at £25 so £100 total). I recommend Lisbon above Madrid and Barcelona, as it's cheaper and more scenic IMO. (O)Porto in northern Portugal is recommended too.
