Rolling Contract Business Telecoms

After BT's appalling handling of a fault on it's own network which resulted in a bill of over £300 for our company for callouts etc. We have looked into moving to Virgin Media, however the company which handles our calls (opal) have told us we are still in contract with them.
We signed a contract just over 3 years ago and on the page which was signed it stated minimum term 12 months. However buried in the small print was something about extended terms after the original term had expired. In english they are basically saying we automatically go onto another 12 month contract after the initial 12 months.
We feel a little misled as the original contract (just over 4 years ago) we signed wasn't on this basis and we were told this contract was just to renew for another 12 months.
As the changes weren't pointed out to us is this not akin to mis-selling?
Any advice would be appreciated.

They're not obliged to point out any changed terms to you. It's your prerogative to read the contract before you sign it.
Sounds like Opal are adopting the same approach as BT to auto-renewing contracts. No free lunch, and no free laptop
