Any tips to get rid of fungus gnats?

Since repotting our basil we seem to have aquired some fungus gnat, just a few at first but this morning I've notice a fair few more. I've read up and the best thing I can find is to let the soil dry out between waterings as they like moist soil. Attempting to do this now and have ordered some of the stickers that suposedly attract them. Also might get some sand to put ontop of the soil to keep the top more dry.
Anybody got any other tips?

1. Water from the bottom
2. Only water when the soil is dry
3. If you end up with lots of plants with the problem and it's between May and August order Hypoaspis mites which are biological control for sciarid fly.I'm not cynical I'm realistic

There's always fly paper. Sprays with a pyrethrin will also work. They live under the soil for several weeks, so it will take a while to get rid of them.0
