blue screen of death!!

When i try and install anything on my pc i get a blue screen with the following message

"A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to protect your PC.

A process or thread crucial to system operation has unexpectedly exited or has been terminated.

if this is the 1st time youve seen this stop error screen, restart your pc. if the screen appears again then follow these steps:
check to make sure any hardware or software is properly installed. if this is a new installation ask your hardware or software manufacturer for any windows updates you may need.

if problems continue, disable or remove any newly oinstalled hardware or software. Disable BIOS memory options such ascaching or shadowing. if you need to use safe mode to remove or disable components, restart your pc, press F8 to select advanced startup options, and then select safe mode.
Technical information:
***STOP: 0x000000F4 (0x00000003,0x895D0DA0,0x895D0F14,0x805D1140)
Beginning dump of physical memory."

I have tried to reinstall windows from scratch and it still happens, it does not happen on any particular install. I have got Windows MCE 2005. When i restart my pc and press f8 i get taken to a bootup menu for my drives but no advanced options. I hve the following pc if it helps:

intel core 2 duo 6600
2048 corsair ram
512mb nvidia 7900gt
dvd drive
dvdrw drive
mem card reader
ASUS P5n SLI motherboard
ATRIX 500t psu
3 fans, with temperatures of a bout 28 centigrade

thanks in advance

    Things to check:

Asus website for latest motherboard/chipset drivers and BIOS

NVidia for latest Graphics Card driver

Whatever the manufacturer for your DVD drives is for latest drivers.

Make sure the latest drivers are Compatable with Windows Media Centre 2005....

  • did all that, makes no difference, also completely updated xp

That psu is not very good, I know it says 500w, but I would be surprised if it hit 250w. I assume you paid about £35 for it.

You should never try and scrimp on power supplies its a false economy.

Seasonic 600w is very highly praised and costs about £80.

You have a brand new system with decent components; I am surprised you tried such a psu. To me it’s like buying a Ferrari and trying to run it on vegetable oil.

Sounds more of a memory problem.... try replacing your memory and see hoe that goes..
If you think nobody cares about you, try missing a couple of payments.
  • can you boot the system into safe mode?
this runs windows with very few drivers if you can its more than likely a corrupt driver
if you cannot get into safe mode you are more than likely the proud owner of a dying hard drive, if you purchased the hard drive you normally also get a utility disc for formatting the disc and checking for faults and problems

Normally I would agree with you with stop errors, but that is one rubbishy psu.

Try memtest86, it will tell you if the memory is fried
