No you are definitely not the only one - I could have written this post myself. I dont know what the answer is. Most of them dont ring back and if they do and give you a quote which you accept you never seem to hear again. I only contact ones who are recommended by friends but it is such hard work.

I prefer to do things differently, I give a verbal quote and when accepted I put it in writing and take a third deposit- which guarantees time in my diary. No deposit = bye bye & on to next job.

Customers prefer to give deposits by credit / debit card (this gives them a bank type official reciept and more guarantee / peace of mind)
    baldly going on...

It doesnt end when they suppose to finish the job. I have been waiting almost 6 weeks for them to replace the glass panel on a patio door as it had a small deep scratch which I didnt see until they went and I cleaned the glass with a microfibre cloth, put filler under a plith they forgot to fill in with filler. I reported the fault within an 30 minutes of the tradesman going and mentioned the gap which he forgot to do, I didnt want to wtahc over them as I would hate it soemoen keeping an eye out.

I have problems with aerial fitters not return calls for a price, electrician who came and looked and said he been in touch never returned my calls.

Makes me glad my OH can do all these jobs around the house, if he didn't ring back I wouldn't cook his tea.

Good luck to all of you trying to get jobs started and finished.
