Account holder in hospital

My husband has been rather ill for the last few weeks. Because of that and living down stairs as getting up the stairs has been rather painful and virtual impossible.

He has not looked at his internet banking because of course his mind is on other things. And we don't have wireless internet.

My husband was admitted to hospital on monday as he was that ill and at the moment we have no idea how long for. So I got his internet banking details from him and logged on. He has been charged over £50 for going over drawn. As he is not earning or getting any benefits at the moment he really needs this money back.

What do I need to be able to run his accounts and deal with. As he is ill and in hospital he is unable to deal with it himself. I could well do with out having to deal with it myself.

Would a signed letter by my husband be enough to allow me to go in to a branch and get it dealt with.

Thanks in advance.

Yours

  • Hi Calley,

I would get in touch with the bank, explain the situation and ask them what documents they require to enable to you manage his account.

I've never been in this type of situation but I would imagine if you explain that it may be a long term problem, Im sure any company worth their salt would point you in the right direction. They will refuse to give you specific information about the account itself though due to data protection security etc.

I hope this helps, and I'm pretty sure someone on here may be able to help you further.
