Home Delivery Services Ridiculous Call Rates!!

Hi everyone!:D

I just thought I'd better bring this to everyone's attention if ther have catalogue's on. My Partner missed a delivery the other day by Home Delivery Services and I called them to collect the parcel (as we're always in & out so bit of a pain waiting in for a parcel that usually arrives at the end of the day after waiting in all day for it!). After an ear-bashing to a jobsworth tele-sales woman (on 0871 977 0800) refusing to let me collect the parcel on my Partners behalf, I proceeded to go to their near-local depot to collect said parcel and had no prob's getting it on my Partners behalf!:T. End of story..........., so I thought:eek:
I've just had my mobile phone bill in and I normally just go over my tariff of £10.00 pcm. So I was suprised to see that I had a bill in for nearly twice my monthly amount?!:( When I checked my calls, one of them was the above no. @ 8:46 minutes. This call cost me £3.52 to collect my Partners Le Da Route items from Home Delivery Services depot. They state that if called from a landline, it'll cost you 10p per minute. Calling them from my mobile cost me nearly 42p PER MINUTE!!!:eek::eek: YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!!!!!!:(

Did you not try www.saynoto0870.com for a geographical alternative?

There are dozens of local 'depots' listed as alternatives to that number there.

BTW, it would have cost you 20p/minute on giffgaff.
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

All 08 numbers (including 0800) cost a fair bit on all networks (except for some old tariffs on some networks).

Freephone (0500, 0800 and 0808) calling on giffgaff is free.

  • Thing is, I didn't know where their local depot was and most firms (like DHL), you have to ring a main number on the card left to re-arrange (which is what I was trying to do and ended up collecting it personally). Regarding GiffGaff, 0871 no.s still cost a fair bit and that no. ain't free....Heinz!
