in Credit cards
hi all
not sure if this is in the right place but am looking to pick someones brains - I have applied for a new bank account with the Halifax, been a customer for years on the easycash account and want to move on to a current account now as I do need the facility for writing cheques - no overdraft wanted tho
I was refused both in my name and in joint names with my new partner which is understandable as he isn't on the electoral roll here.
They advised me to get my credit reports which after loads of hassle I have done, the only things showing on there are the financial connections with my late husband (who I have asked to be removed) and a couple of defaults going back some years, one from 2008 and one from 2005, loads of searches showing tho nearly all of them by halifax as I have tried to change accounts a few times
At the minute we have round about 6k per month going through the easycash account but they won't even look at me
Any advice on putting credit rating back where it should be as we are looking to get a mortgage at some point in the future
I do have a loan with flm which is showing on there but with no late payments same as my provident loans which I have never missed.
Also I have applied for a catalogue in October last year but been refused, I should point out that the default from 2008 was a capital one card which my late husband spent on and the other one was from Orange although my O2 account shows on there without a problem
I look forward to your answers

It will be the defaults which are causing you problems. Phone contracts etc you may get if you're lucky, but nothing mainstream.
They will be on your report for 6 years from the date of issue - so until 2011 and 2014 respectively. In the meantime the only advice I can give is to stop applying for products and maintain payments on your current debts. Once the defaults drop off you can try for some low-level credit products such as a Vanquis or Aqua credit card, which used correctly will repair your history.
If you no longer have any active joint financial products (including loans, mortgages, credit cards, bank/savings accounts etc) with your ex then you can apply to have the link severed. If not, you need to close them first.
I'm sorry to say, it will be a long time before you get accepted for a decent mortgage.Debts at LBM (May '08) £5760 - Lloyds CC £4260, Lloyds OD £1500;Debts as of May 28th 2011:Santander CC: £0.00Lloyds OD : £0.00DFW Nerd #1247 - Proudly dealt with my DebtsOlympic 2012 Challenge #12
