Don't try to fathom it. They charges are unenforceable - whether the government says the parking has to be free doesn't really matter.
  • I stopped off for a nap at a motorway service station at 3am, stayed 3hrs and 1min (I'm so precise as CP Plus have informed me so) and then received the good ol' pay £50 now or £80 later. I've normally been one of the traditional English not wanting to get in trouble and paid up begrudgingly, but not this time! I'm a pretty conscientious driver and this is the 2nd ticket I've received since February by private parking companies that police their car parks by camera - it's stealthy and totally unacceptable.

I was away for a bit and so then got their 'now it's £120' letter, after which I sent them a stroppy letter and a cheque for £10 explaining that had I known I was supposed to pay to park then I would have done and that it was pretty common sense that if people were aware of charges they'd rather pay that than spend time writing a barrage of letters and stumping up £50 or more. I today received a letter from them saying they've now reduced it to £50 again as a goodwill gesture - so kind of them!

Do I continue to ignore? I'm cross because I pulled off the M1 due to me struggling to stay awake, so feel like I'm being penalised for not causing a multiple pile up on the motorway.

Yes, continue to ignore, but what on earth made you send the scammers some money?
PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

Really demanding payment for taking a rest break is really disturbing, there is a reason for the 'tiredness kills' signs on the motorway, better that people take a break rather than causing an accident that could kill them or others.

All these service stations are on government land I believe, how can these scammers operate in such places ? Why haven't they been told to take a hike ? People don't abuse these places, how can they when the government through the various agencies tell drivers to take a break, these are public places with facilities that you can spend money at.

There is a 10 downing st site that allows petitions to the government, this would be a good one imo
Excel Parking, MET Parking, Combined Parking Solutions, VP Parking Solutions, ANPR PC Ltd, & Roxburghe Debt Collectors. What do they all have in common?
They are all or have been suspended from accessing the DVLA database for gross misconduct!
Do you really need to ask what kind of people run parking companies?
