BBC House prices: Surveyors expect property values to fall

A bigger proportion of surveyors are expecting house prices to fall in the coming months than at any time since March last year.
Some 38% more of those asked, in the survey by the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (Rics), expected prices to fall rather than rise in the next three months.
They said that property values fell for the second consecutive month in August.
Scotland was the only part of the UK to buck the downward trend in prices.

...much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.

I wonder how they work out what a house is worth ... really. I mean, they walk into a house, it sold 3 years ago for £200k, round the corner one just sold for £175k, but they haven't been in that one. So how do they know if this one's worth £175k, £176k, £150k or what?
They must just make it up really.0 -
Has the BBC found a great big bear outfit in it's darkest deepest forgotten corner?
Bless them.0 -
According to RICS that -38 figure is consistent with a year-on-year increase in nominal house prices of about 2.5% slightly bizarrely.

Is this really news?
Many predicted a stagnant 2010.
We've had rises so far this year and thus need (was predicted) falls in order for the market to stagnate.:wall:
What we've got here is....... failure to communicate.

they're a bit late with this one.
prices have been falling for a while now and continue to do so."The problem with quotes on the internet is that you never know whether they are genuine or not" -

As I said yesterday, press sensationalise some bad news to boost figures (no doubt falling due to the new ITV program) but the truth is something entirely different.0

Only 'round your way'
Land Registry, Nationwide, Halifax, Academetrics etc etc etc (those that show sold prices) all show an increase on average accross the UK.:wall:

Halifax "standardised price" actually shows a small decrease since the end of 2009.0 -
