  • You may wish to book accommodation, research/plan/book what you will do when you get there, hire a car, etc etc. It's a bit hard to know without a few more details.

  • try not planning on spending much time in Sydney.. Its not that good
  • Au contraire (Del Boy), Sydney is not that good ? Has to be the best city in the world I have ever visited and I have visited a few. You have the river with regular high speed ferries so no need to worry about taxis, buses etc. What a way to travel with great scenery. You have good beaches very close to hand, with great night life. Harbour district is beautiful at night, just sit in a bar or cafe and admire the views. Warm enough to do this at night with all the lights shining, stunning. Would move there in a heart beat if my other half was willing.

Word of warning, from experience if you require medical treatment when in Australia make sure it is through Medicare (you need to register when there) which is NHS equivalent or your travel insurance may not pay up.

Enjoy your trip, I'm very jealous !

  • crackers247 - I think you are :D

We recently spent 2 weeks in Sydney with friends who have never visited the city before and they are going back later this year before they travel on to other parts of Australia. I agree with Clivelester - most wonderful city in the world and we have stayed there about 5 times and still would return.

Have you booked hotel for first night - do you know how to get there from the airport - so much reading to do and plans to make.
  • Thanks all for your info. And clivelester for info about Medicare, will do that.

I'm staying with family in Brisbane, so accommodation sorted, and they are picking me up from airport. Am planning a few days in Sydney during my visit, flying down (again staying with family).
Sydney plans so far, blue mountains, Windsor old town, harbour bridge and opera house, Manly, Bondi, ...
Brisbane plans - beaches, Q1 tower, Australia zoo, Tamborine mountain, surfers...
Have been studying my brisbane guide book as you can see.

Have sorted out the travel insurance too, I'd forgotten to jot that down.
  • Don't forget to take all of the food, seeds (and any muddy boots etc) out of your bags.
See Oz gov web-sites for a full list.
  • You must visit Byron Bay lighthouse while in the area. Most amazing views, you can watch the rays swimming in the clear sea below the high cliffs. :j
  • Clivelester, you're a star, thanks for your info, and Byron Bay is apparently about an hour south of where I'll be staying.

And Bobthesaver, I plan to travel really light and take no odd luggage.
  • Blue mountains are gorgeous.

I loved Sydney, I lived there for 8 months and it is such a great city. It is so easy to travel on public transport.

Nimbin is an interesting town :D
