Just wondering if their are any free versions/alternatives of Microsoft Outlook/Office & Microsoft Word.
Any advice please as i am not very tech minded.

Office related this will likely do everything you need: http://www.openoffice.org/

+1 for OpenOffice. It's supported by Sun Systems so does have good pedigree.
It saves its' own format of document (.odt) but doe also handle all Microsoft formats.
Also does database, spreadsheet, etc etc.
It's free so try it and see how it goes.I don't like morning people. Or mornings. Or people.0
