I use PC Tools' ianitivirus, though it's never detected anything.
    But then it is free.

My son has used Macs for many years and says there is no need of any AV product.

  • Thank you for all your helpful replies. I'm going to do some more research and get some security on quickly!

I noticed a few comments about Safari and hadn't realised there were issues with it. Which browser would I be better using?

    Thanks

I'd say firefox or chrome/chromium. Firefox is more adaptable chrome/chromium faster and arguably more secure atm.
  • If you use firefox, I would recommend the "noscript" plugin, for protection against cross-site scripting and other nasties.

I never thought i would need protection but just for interest i installed ' iAntiVirus' on my mac and found 2 trojans - now its free - found it on mse - so i would recommend it.

If you are using it for work, then you may have an obligation to scan files that go any route via your machine.
