Excessive house visits from Eon

Never mind, in the long term we'll all have smart meters fitted and the power companies won't need to visit your house every 3 months for a meter reading. Just remember, big brother will be watching......0

I lived in California 10 years ago and at that stage someone came to read gas, electricity and water meters every month ... not only that, because the meters were on the outside of the house, but behind the garden gates we were obliged to leave the gates open at all times to permit access ... fortunately crime in Cupertino appeared to be non-existent ... well apart from one armed robbery at the bank at the end of the road!0

I never thought I'd ever see the "won't someone please think of the children"-esque claptrap in a sentence condemning companies for sending meter readers round.
My one gripe with the E-on bods around here is that the meters are all set at stupid heights and they sent the world's shortest meter reader around last time they came down the street - poor woman!
If I'm in - I let 'em in, if not - they'll have to manage, does it really need some moral outcry at a company wanting to know how much of their "stuff" you've used so they can bill you accurately? Nah just let 'em make it all up.Little miracle born April 2012, 33 weeks gestation and a little toughie!0 -
I'm quite pleased that I get such regular meter reading visits from Eon. Shows we're paying for something more than just the energy in our bills. If you get a bill that's estimated it's really easy to just leave it be until the next time and that's when you can start wracking up bigger bills because their estimates are too low.
The readers in my area tend to come at differing times so whilst 2 out of the 4 of the year I'm probably not in and write my own and leave the card in view, the other 2 will probably be read. I am far more likely to get a reading and leave it for him the next day than I am to get it changed after receiving the bills.0 -
Its simple - some people just have a blind hate for energy companies - and the OP sounds like someone in that category.
Giving a reading once a quarter is no biggy. If you dont like it refuse access, and just let them in every other time. They will put a note on your account that you refused access though, however if they're getting 1 or 2 actual readings each year they wont care.0 -
Four times you've posted that rant now Peter and each time you get the same answer furnished to you.
Give it a rest!
I did think this forum was about saving not wasting
Just like the meter readers school of thought I will post it at least four times every three months!, you must then drop everything you were doing to read it and disagree, then immediately reply, I will then post it again and charge you for every time I do
BTW hope you enjoy your latest price rise which includes payment for the Keystone Kops style of gathering readings0
