Help with Windows Media Player.

Help please...............
Ok here goes............
Bought DD new laptop saturday....The Acer From Comet...
Great............all a ok and windows media player worked properly......
Today....Got internet connected to it.........
Uninstalled trial of Norton and Installed Avast...
Windows media now wont play........and no sound on it but sound ok on other programes....
system restored to saturday..........media player worked again but norton also reinstalled and internet settings and avast uninstalled....so restored to today and everything okay cept for media player.
Updated the media player to see if thatd help.........now version 11...but still same.................not play or sound...
error codes i have are......C00D11B1 and original code 8007007E....also stated.........THE SPECIFIED MODULE COULD NOT BE FOUND.
Any help .......input gratefully received.

Hi thanks for that .........tried that..unfortunately...no joy.....turned out to be an activeX missing component which even though reinstalled active latest didnt fix either.....so a system restore and then slow reinstall of all software etc.phew...done now.....thanks again.0 -
to save you the hassle of doing system restores and losing valuable stuff maybe try alternative players?
ive suggested vlc media player on this forum as it pretty much handles any format of file. i do use other programs like windows media player but i always have a copy of vlc media player in case any problems develop with my other players.
other good ones are media player (a great one is ace mega codecs) and im sure a couple of others a posted on this site.
