Car insurance change of addres.

Im going to be moving addres very soon, need a bit of advice regarding my car inusurance policy.
when i inform of the change of the addres will they cancel the current one and set a new policy up from that date or will they continue current policy with the same policy cost?.
i do beleive the address im moving to will be cheaper rather than more expensive due to the area and the off road parking in the way of a garage. i was just wondering if it would work cheaper would they just keep it the way it is for them or if its more expensive up my policy or cancel and create a new one?
hopefully ive explained it as best as possible.
any help would be apriciated.

  • When you move, there will prob be an admin charge for amendements to the policy, i.e. change of address, which can vary from company to company, on average about £20.00. They won't cancel your current policy, however, I'm not sure about the postcode/ area where you're moving to bit. I suppose it does depend on the company you are with, but they should offer you the difference if there is a vast difference in policy price due to the vehicle being kept at a different location. However, some companies don't refund if the difference is £10 or under. Hope this helps!!!

Living in a "better" area doesn't necessarily mean you will get a refund.

I moved from a "better" area to a less wealthy area briefly and my car insurance premium went down.

In the less wealthy area there was less chance of me hitting a brand new expensive sports ca, and wealthy people with newer cars are more inclined to claim for every scratch regardless of the cause.
    I'm not cynical I'm realistic :p

Whilst this had been true for me every time I have moved before, at my last renewal I took up with Admiral who were the most competitive. I was pleasantly surprised when I advised them of my most recent change of address that, not only did they not charge me an admin fee, my monthly premium actually reduced. Thumbs up :money:for Admiral!!
