tj hughes - and the invisble delivery charges!!

We tried to get a new mattress and also a new bed from one of there branches today.
Nowhere does it states on display that they are delivery only, just a sign saying £199 for a double and £249 for a kingsize.

We get to the checkout and for the double the sales assistant says that is £224. Well we queried it and we were told its delivery only and everyone has to pay £25 per item delivery!!

Have since checked the newspaper and it doesnt even state there that its home delivery only and you have to pay £25 on top.

FALSE ADVERTISING at its very best.

Has anyone else had problms with them over this???

If it's not available for the advertised price then compain to the Advertising Standards Authority. This is a major term of the contract which should be made obvious in the advert.

If you go into the store, thee is no mention of home delivery only at an additional cost..... To find out, the only way is to go to the sales desk, and thats when its mentioned.

I did ask the manager and she mentioned it was a common complaint!!!!!

  • Had a similar thing at Cargo recently. Sofa was promoted in store at £199, but then they wanted to add £50 delivery, which is quite a jump in price.

I do think its misleading - and disappointing when you try to buy such an item.

their online advert states "delivery only" as its classed as a large item, and, large items attract a delivery charge of £25 ....delivery may take up to 14 days as well...

I went in TJ Hughes this afternoon. All the beds had big look-at-me prices on them. A few beds had an A4 sized sheet of paper laying on top of them with wording along the lines of 'all beds will incur a delivery charge'.

In my view the pricing is sneaky at best. It's definitely misleading in the same way some companies advertise headline grabbing prices which are actually ex. vat.

TJ Hughes should be ashamed of themselves. No wonder my local store is always virtually empty if they conduct their business in this way.
