How do you work that out? What makes you 'SURE'? Are you an expert?

It uses your existing broadband service. your existing email account and any mobile phone/service provider.

  • Not completely wrong, if you wanted to use the remote access software reccommended by Motorola there is a monthly fee.
Motorola has also teamed up with I'm InTouch to give homesight users a discount on its remote-access software, so you can keep an eye on your home from a Pocket PC or Palm OS PDA, or work PC. Visit https://www.imintouch.net for details.

You can just use https://www.logmein.com instead for remote access which has a completely free version.

I bought this when it was £99 and its great. Couple of things though, you must leave your PC on constantly, the camera isn't great quality (but not too bad) and the wireless part doesn't go very far (my camera won't work from my garage which is only just behind my house, and my wireless internet connection works fine from there).

Also, there is no actual alarm which has to be bought separately and as yet I haven't found one available for sale anywhere in the UK!

Is the quality good enough to be of any use?, or would I say be better off just buying a wireless camera and bolt that into my wireless network (if there is such a thing)?
  • Is there any way of viewing the wireless camera picture produced on a normal TV in the same house (as opposed to just remotely via a PC). Looking for a video baby monitor but this is interesting because of it's remote possibilities.

Yes I am quite happy with it but its not a perfect picture. I think its fine for security purposes.

I love the fact that it can send the video via email to you. I can watch my wife and child when they arrive home, and they purposely wave at the camera so I can see them at work.

I'm not sure about other wireless cameras, but I wouldn't be suprised that there will be ones out there (probably IP cameras).

You would need to ouput from the PC to the TV via a video card etc.
TBH I don't think it would be a good baby monitor, however, you
can buy a great baby monitor from Woolies for £39.99. You get a wireless camera (though only B&W, but it does have night vision) and a small monitor which has outputs to a video recorder. I've had one since my baby was born and it works great.

The link for it is :

  • Sorry for all the questions, but very interested in this. The wireless camera that comes with it, does this has infra red capabilities as well for use at night?. The Review from PC Pro seems to suggest it does. I really just want something. Also is the window/door sensor wireless as well?.

    Thanks for your help,
    Sandy

    Hi Sandy,

No, unfortunately the camera you get is only a "day" camera and therefore doesn't work at night. However, you can then buy a "day/night" camera which does work at night. They did sell them in PC World, but I've just checked and can't find them on their site.

The window/door sensor is completely wireless as well and runs off two aa batteries. You can check the battery level in the application.

I've had mine abou 4 months now, and all of the battries are still full.
