how about this then... ebayer sends me cash

I sold a watch on ebay last week, and the buyer originally said that he would send a chq, he then changed his mind to say that it will be a postal order ( i was gearing myself up for a non payer) but got home from work and opened up a padded envelope to find 107.00 mostly in notes with a post it note with an address on it.

the guy didnt even send it recorded. :rotfl: I was laughing at how mad that is. even if it made it through the postal system, thats alot of trust on me to say that it hadnt arrived. I've dropped him a quick mail to say its arrived and that he should be more careful and not so trusting because sooner or later someone is going to take advantage of his good nature.

anyone had this before or a better story. I still can't believe he stuck notes in a envelope and just sent it on its merry way.

i just can't believe there are people out there that do this kind thing nowadays, no wonder so many people are still being conned.
Listen to what people say, but watch what people what people do!!

mabye a tad naive but it's kinda nice to know that in this world of many many s***heads, there are some nice (if not dim) folk out there.

Either that of he is a money launderer!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:rotfl:
  • I've had modest amounts of Euros sent in the post on more than one occasion. I've also had coins taped to bits of cardboard. Before ebay changed their rules I used to state on my auctions that I accepted cash at the buyer's risk. I never had a problem with it but I never sold high value items.
  • I once bought a GPS unit off a fellow pilot via Ebay for cash - I sent him £350 in an envelope.

I see it two ways. I dont rob people, and I live my life by a code of 'do unto others' etc...and have always been okay so far.

The other way is, I have an address , big muscles and a helicopter:A :rotfl:

Ah but what would you have done if your cash had got lost in the post? Missing mail is getting commoner & commoner.
  • I heard about someone who posted their credit card to a seller.
    My TV is broken!
Edit: refunded £515 for TV 1.5 years out of warranty - thank you Sale of Goods Act! :j

I've had this too, almost £10 in coins and they only put a first class stamp on the envelope. Needless to say, there was extra postage to pay plus the Royal Mail charge too. I wasn't too chuffed!
  • Had £250 in notes from Sweden as the customer would not pay the charges for a cheque. Was wrapped in foil and recorded.

Make sure its not counterfit (sp.) that would be my first thought if someone wanted an item of that value
  • Went through ok, was back in July. I find a fair few Swedish customers send cash. Maybe their banks charge a lot.
