We are looking for a victim of the Icesave collapse.

What do you mean by victim? Apart from the inconvenience factor, there arent any retail consumers in the UK who are victims.

You may want to look to Iceland if you want to find the victims.

Yes, there were "victims". Perhaps not as many and to a lesser extent than if the UK Government had not stepped in but I did not receive, nor would I expect to have received, all capital plus interest that I would have got had the been no bank failures.

Given that the FSA were brilliant in the way they handled the compensation arrangements there cannot be too many retail depositers with complaints. I had a lot of money in several accounts with Icesave and could not believe how quickly I got my money back.
Take my advice at your peril.

Victims? You are looking in the wrong place. Nowadays we can only dream about the interest rates those Icelanders paid us!

Just putting the credit in the right place. It was not the FSA. It was the FSCS and yes, they did a very good job.

  • There should be a programme in praise of the re-payments. I have this distinct feeling that it was truly historical ... There is part of me that feels it may never happen on that scale again ... (That's not of course to say that it won't ... especially with the enhanced holdings just mandated by the banks)!!
