HELP needed to stop Hassle from Debt collectors!

Hi, I'm new to this but hope someone can advise me!

I'm being chased for a debt owed to Halifax for £439.

Firstly a company called Westcroft chased me, and I prooved although my name and address, matched their records, my DOB was different to the person they were after.

I heard nothing more for months then got a letter from Credit Security Ltd, for the same amount for a Halifax debt.

Again it was the DOB that was different, and I was told I would hear no more.

On friday I recieved a letter from IQOR, halifax again and the same amount.
i was going to contact them when I came in from work this afternoon, to find another letter from a company called Telogram, wanting me to ring them to confirm details of myself, but no mention of debts, or amounts.

I assume one debt company is selling the debt to another when they have no 'joy' of recovering a debt, but for me where does this end, and how can I end it?
Its becoming a pain, and although it doesn't seem to show on my experian file, i'm getting quite concerned its going to black list my house, as when I applied for a loan recently I was offered a terrible rate, previously i've always been offered the best rates going, although i've got a little bit of debt, I keep my finances in order.

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Ok first off houses don't have credit files, that's a common misconception. The files are per person so don't worry about that. It's not on your file because it's not yours, as you have worked out. That you were offered a poor interest rate on a loan recently is probably more a measure of the current climate than anything else and the entire of the information the lenders have with which to make thier decision is your credit file.

There are three UK credit reference agencies (or CRA's), Experian, Equifax and Call Credit. A lender can inform one, two or all three about your management of an account you have with them and a lender can check one two or all three when making a decision about letting you open an account or not. This means you can check one file and it can look fine, but another one might look different, this could be the one the lenders looked at for your loan. So if you want to KNOW what they know, rather than guessing, simply get copies of the three files. The most this need cost you is £2 each, it is often possible for free. If this debt does turn up on your file, let us know, we can help you get it off again since it's not true. Read this http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/loans/credit-rating-credit-score#files

As regards stopping the debt collection agencies (DCA's for short) from bothering you, that should be relatively easy. First thing you need to do is send the Prove It letter. Send this by recorded post, to the last DCA who wrote to you. Here it is http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showpost.html?p=23624459&postcount=3

As it's not your debt, they can't prove it. They will probably send you back a screen print of an excel file or something equally easy to totally invent. That's fine, they always do that rubbish, you send back another letter at that point which basically says "get lost". If they phone you, then there is a letter for that. If they say they are going to visit you, there is a letter for that. So don't worry, it can all be got rid of. Send the prove it letter first, then let us know what they reply with.

Your mistake, was assuming they are human beings and ever playing thier game. If you had ignored all contact they all would have gone away by now. That you were prepared to play along and offer evidence you weren't the debtor in question means you are now seen as easy to bait. You weren't to know this but, the law says the entire burden of proof is on them to prove you ARE the debtor in question, not on you. Never phone them again. Read this for more on that... https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/2719675
I refuse to be afraid of the big bad wolf, spiders, or debt collection agencies; one of them's not real and the other two are powerless without my fear.
(Ok, one of them is powerless, spiders can be nasty.)

As of the last count I have cleared
    [STRIKE]23.16%[/STRIKE] 22.49% of my debt. :(
