Barclaycard Unwilling.........

in Credit cards
Having been accepted online for a card last week, I activated it successfully this morning (the telephone message told me so). When I called this afternoon to make a balance transfer I was put on hold for 20 minutes, then the FRAUD DEPT answered. Took me through security and told me they had closed the account. I have not a clue why. They refused to let me speak to a supervisor.
Called customer services. I said I wanted to speak to a supervisor, they said yes, kept me waiting for 20 minutes and guess what.... they had connected me to the Fraud Dept again.
They will not tell me anything, not even what their complaints procedure is. Presumably their online acceptance procedure is not very rigorous - I have two cards at the moment, but I cannot imagine why their fraud dept was involved. Why would they activate my card then close the account 2 hrs later. SO far as I know I have a good credit rating.
I have avoided Barclays for the past 20 yrs on ethical grounds, it may well be another 40 yrs before I try them again!

Generally when applications are accepted online they are in principal pending further checks.
I'm presuming the further checks have taken place and they have made the decision to close the account.
The best way forward would be to check your credit file with the CRAs to check for any adverse data registered against you.
Most banks do this it must really frustrating to the applicant.Im an ex employee RBS GroupHowever Any Opinion Given On MSE Is Strictly My Own0 -

It may well be another 40 years but Barclays do not want you as a customer. You are obviously a risk.0 -
I suspect you know why. Have you checked your credit rating recently?
You can see how to do this on the MSE site, or start with Experian for example.
All the complaining in the world isn't going to change your situation; only positive action will work!
Good luck!

I don't see why they would put him through to the fraud department if it was a case or hidden nasties on his credit file. I'd be concerned and want to find out what the issue is like the OP is.0

There are many reports here that Barclaycard are closing accounts as soon as they open and they don't have to provide you with a reason for their decision. OP must check is credit file as obviously they've seen something which they don't like....0 -

yes it seems they are manually checking applications once they have been accepted online, poor underwriters must be really bored or busy?Aqua card - £250 Limit up to date, Jd Williams £150 limit up to date, Argos store card £400 limit up to date, Next £300 limit up to date.:beer:0 -
Just had there card and had a 'courtesy' call from them Saturday (i.e. called to sell me sh*t I don't want).
Been sat on hold on the phone for 30 minutes (so far) today and 40 mins yesterday, with no answer.
There crappy web system won't accept my sort code for direct debit setup (every other bank does). And I can't make a balance transfer from another card because there crappy system says "There are currently no balance transfer offers available for your selected Barclaycard product.", well it bloody better had, as I joined for the 18 months free interest.
I COULDN'T BE ANY LESS IMPRESSED. How much money did they rip off (sorry make) from customers over the last 6 months. For gods sake, get more call centre staff.0
