Average price for decent hotel in NYC

Hello

Just wondering what the average price per night for a hotel in midtown manhatten (walking distance to time square) would be? We're looking in June 2011 and wondered what would be seen as average / a good deal? We've seen some for around £140 a night but don't know if thats a lot for NYC!

Also, any hotel recommendations welcome.

Thanks

  • I stayed in the Hilton Times Square in December which was really good value for money as they had 4 nights for the price of 3 when i booked (8 months before travel). We used the subway afew times but most things were within walking distance!
£140 a night is not a bad price if it's a nice central hotel, you can save money by staying abit further out but as it's usually a short city break you want to be within a reasonsable distance to sights and shops :)
Take comfy shoes ... Lol :rotfl:

Priceline should get you something for less than £100 if you do your research.

New York hotels are getting silly expensive lately. I stayed at the Holiday Inn Express on W 29th St near MSG 2 years ago for about £50/night. I've just forked out about £170/night for the same hotel next week. I loathed to pay so much but everywhere else is just as expensive so might as well stick with somewhere i've had a good experience with.

I am guessing you did not use the Friends and Family Rate (too late to book for next week now)?

I did use the F&F rate. Maybe it wasn't quite that much but not far off. I'm staying 10 nights on my trip at various different IHG hotels, all booked on the F&F rate.
  • hotels in NY are always expensive, especially in downtown manhatten, ie; times square, but it's the best place to stay, what you spend on hotels you will make up on what you spend, everything is soooo cheap when you get there & defo go to katz deli, where harry met sally was filmed, they make the best sandwhiches & ENORMOUS, all the presidents past & present have been there, have a fab time :)

Go to dealbase dot com. Scroll down to the bottom and select New York City. This site lists all of the best hotel offers for the next four months. eg:

    starting at$184
"Wake Up Wired Package" + Breakfast For Two, Internet
Sheraton Manhattan at Times Square rating_3_stars.png?1284085228 New York City, NY
Travel Dates: Weekends Through Dec 31, 2010

If a hotel has a special deal, eg free breakfast, one night free etc, this site collects the info and posts it. I got a deal at MGM in Vegas for $54 a night for the room including 24/7 access to their buffet. The dinner buffet alone cost around $30 each.

I realise this won't help the OP who wants to travel in June 11 but if she waits until February, she may get a better deal.

The offers come and go but for near term booking it's always worth a look.

I wouldn't dismiss staying off Manhattan. Look at Queens or Brooklyn with good subway links or PATH trains from New Jersey. You can be just a few minutes away staying in better and cheaper rooms.
