XBox & old pc hard drive?

Son wants more storage space to save 'stuff' on his xbox. We have a 300GB hard drive taken from an old pc, would it work if we got a usb caddy to sit the drive in and connected it to the xbox via a usb lead?

Seems a waste to go buy a new xbox hard drive if this usb caddy idea would work.

  • That won't work.

Otherwise they wouldn't make money on them would they?

I had a feeling that was the case. Worth a thought though.

  • You could probably manage it, however...

Any modification of an xbox voids the warranty and I believe xbox live checks hardware, so if they detected anything out of the ordinary you could get kicked off that too.

however what 'stuff' are you talking about?
the 360 can use flash drives for game saves now
if you have a 20GB drive then you can often get the 60GB drives for not bad(for 360 drives) prices

All 'stuff'. :D Game saves, stuff he's downloaded, all sorts. Part of his disability means he's very 'structured' about what gets saved where. It would just have made life easier if we could have used a larger drive and compartmentalised it for him.

More than possible to increase the hard drive size, but you still haven't said whether it's an original Xbox or a 360.

Either way it isn't going to be a straight swap though, you will need to have a friendly "chat" with the Xbox or the hard disk (model dependant) before it does what YOU (the paying customer) wants it to do.
