Reselling an item bought on Ebay

The title doesn't give much away!

I was watching an item on Ebay, and as it was for a present asked a question about it. The seller found a fault and withdrew it from the auction as a direct result of my question. I was desperate to get this item as had been looking for ages, so asked the seller if I could buy off auction (as it had been withdrawn doesn't come under Ebay rules), and made her an offer (£5), she declined, and said she could only sell at the start price, (£2.00). I was delighted at her generosity, and received the item shortly afterwards.

I could not find a fault with the item, so was even more pleased, but now have found a newer better version, so have bought that. Therefore am stuck with the original, but as it was for someone else, I don't want it, and the only place I am likely to get rid of it is Ebay. Finally I reach the point!!

What if the original seller spots that I'm re-selling their item, which I bought out of auction at a bargain price, and makes a fuss? Should I come clean and email them first and tell the tale, or just take the chance that they wouldn't spot it? Sorry for asking, just feel it's a bit of a moral dilemma. What would you do?

Cheers!

    go for it,

if you want to email the seller, then that is up to you.

personally i would go for it, i have bought stuff in the past, paid for it and received, used it once, then resold it as it didnt do what i expected...... even though the description was correct.... i ended up selling it for more than I had paid (inc p&p).
smile --- it makes people wonder what you are up to.... ;)

I've done the same thing a few times (i.e. bought something, didn't like it, and then sold it). I would go ahead and sell it. However if you have a guilty consience, email the original seller and explain, otherwise, don't bother.

Not much they can do about it, after all, the item now belongs to you now.

Serves 'em right for selling it to you at a discount!

Chances are they won't see your auction anyway so I wouldn't worry about it.

i made a £20 profit reselling a pair of jeans that didnt fit

i felt a bit guilty about it - but at the end of the day am sure the original seller wouldnt have been too happy to offer me a refund just cos i had put on a few pounds over christmas ;)

You bought it at an agreed price, you own it - what's the problem.... the original seller was pleased to get rid at any price and will have long forgotten it.

eBay themselves promote the concept of buying items on eBay to resell on eBay (and I do it all of the time)

she wont make a complaint to ebay though as she would have to admit she sold it after withdrawing it which would sound like she was avoiding the fees.

I think lots of people do buy to sell on,im sure there are all sorts of dealers buying from ebay and selling in their shops.

Hope you make a nice profit :)

Sell it as its yours anyway. Last year before I started selling on ebay I had a thing about buying clinique and lancome makeup bags, I ended up with loads and still had some left after giving them for pressies, I have now sold them all on ebay.

I've just listed a trouser suit I bought from E-bay. I bought it for myself, but the jacket turned out to be huge on me, I actually state in the listing why I'm selling it, and that I'm only trying to get my money back!
    Hope it sells now!
