B&Q bathroom quote excessive?

Hi,

Have had a quote for refitting bathroom-B&Q came out & have designed & priced up everything - the actual cost of the materials inc new bath, toilet & sink, new electric shower, tiles & laminate floor, and replacing the radiator & also a lighted mirror is £1173.

The labour cost is £2629, which covers:

Install new shower
Resite/remove & seal radiator
Install bath
Fit decorative lighting per run
Box in pipework
Box in bath end
Certify electrical installation work
Install mains earth
Install tiling wall
Install laminate flooring (1.73 SQM)
Fit door tread
Install shower screen
Remove tiling from wall
Remove & dispose bathroom

I have to pay £50 (refundable upon purchase) up front towards the cost of a survey, which is being done next week.

I have placed 2 calls to local fitters to also supply me with a quote, but as yet, they have not returned my call.

I was expecting to pay around the 3k mark, but, actually seeing the quote in black & white, seeing the labour charge more than double the cost of the materials has put me off the whole thing!

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thank you

  • Hi,

I've now received a 2nd quote from a plumber for £2000.This includes all work as above plus, a payment for an electrician to fit the shower & mirror.

Does this reasonable - the plumber said about 8-10 days work.

Site unseen I'd say that was on the button for the scope you describe. Timescale about right too.

    Cheers

  • Nobody mentioned plastering yet?

Guess they're gonna wait til they de tile it and 'OMG what a surprise' the walls fall apart.... you've got no Loo or washing facilities by then so you'll have to cough for the plasterer who by total chance is available the very next day... what are the chances of that!

Laminate floor? You doing a temporary job? It's not waterproof when you step on it and get it wet it will absorb the water at the joints and start to degrade.

Use a real floor like Karndean, same look but 100% waterproof
