Argh... hotel deposit!

Hi Everyone,
I made a reservation last October with McKever hotels for this weekend. The total price was £200, and I paid £100 deposit. I have the confirmation email to prove this.
I emailed them last week to confirm the reservation, using the 'reply to' email on the confirmation- with no reponse.
I then found a different contact email on the website, and wrote to this address instead. The reply I got back was from a new company who took over the hotel in April 2010. They have no record of my booking or deposit, and believe all deposits were transferred from McKever.
So, am I correct in thinking I should still be chasing McKever for the deposit, even though they no longer own the hotel, as my original contract was with them?
Thanks!
