Credit card deposits for car hire, Faro airport

I was planning on hiring a car at faro airport but I have just been told you need a security deposit of sometimes 900euro.... I dont have that kind of money on my visa, are there any companies that dont charge this security deposit? Thanks:(

we used them for the first time last year and again this year and if you dont have a credit card they take a euro deposit of 100 euros, the cars have all been really new that we have had, and we would use them again

You don't normally need to leave the deposit (normally in the form of allowing them to reserve €1000 or so on your card) if you buy their excess insurance (which goes by a variety of names). I'm not advocating buying the insurance, and I never bother with it when I'm hiring a car, but you may think differently.

1. Excess insurance can usually be had more cheaply in the uk. There are articles on this site about it. About £40 will cover £2k of excess, which is enough for almost any hire car excess.

2. Most Faro hire companies take an old manual credit card impression (remember those old clicky credit card machines?) so they don't directly charge the card. Remember to get your copy back when returning the vehicle.
