Landlord Insurance

I am very confused about this. My current insurer will not extend my buildings and contents insurance to cover my new lodger because she is a student (no problems with the last one because she was working).
I've had a look on LandlordZONE who have reams of companies offering Landlord insurance, but it all seems to be aimed at people who are either renting out multiple properties, or are non-resident landlords renting on an AST.
I cannot cancel my current policy because I've held it for less than a year, so ideally I'm looking for a 'top-up' policy that would cover the lodger's possessions, any damage they might cause, and my liability towards the lodger.
Does this kind of policy exist? And if so, can anyone tell me where I should be looking to find one?
The only other option seems to be to let my current insurance run but also buy one of the standard Landlord policies - at over three times the price I currently pay. If I do this, I will actually be out of pocket on letting my room to the lodger..

Why are you responsible for insuring your lodger's belongings? that's their responsibilty.
As for liability you're right, standard LL's insurance is aimed at ASTs and will be costly, but a quick google (lodger landlord insurance)finds
