A wireless problem - signal strength problem

Ok Strange one
My friend has 2 computers in the same room of the house a desktop and a lappy. The lappy has full signal from the wireless router and the other one has 1 bar and won't connect / intermitently connects using the same router?
Any ideas?
Thanks

Is the desktop PC using a built in PCI wireless card or a plug in USB adapter?
If the latter, try using a different USB port, preferably one on the front, to get the aerial out from behind the big metal box that is damping the signal. Or better still, buy a USB extender cable and raise the adapter up and way from the PC-tack it to a wall or shelf etc.
Or of course it may just be a cheap and nasty USB adapter.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)
  • The wireless connector has a lead on it have put it on top of a bookcase and success it seems to have done it. The desktop is in the corner of the room.
    Thanks guys
