  • Fantastic to get the news of this. It runs at the lowest priority on your computer and therefore only takes unused processor capacity to do its work. It happily does its little effort, to look for a human cancer cure and communicates to/from their website with results and tasks.

That link wouldn't work for me, so I had a look around and appears that this http://www.grid.org/download/gold/download.htm is the same thing :-)
Comping, freebieing and trying to pay the mortgage off early!
  • My pc has been working on this for 2 years 284 days 16 hours and 47 minutes.

It only works as a screensaver so does not slow your pc at all.

Screensaver is quite pretty although it does get comments from visitors as it looks like something out of a science fiction film.

No sign of a cure yet so the more people download it and put their pc to use when it is idle the better.

Thanks for this. Much more practical than using spare capacity to look for alien life.

Very good it is too - well worth looking at by those with computers running all the time. There is even a Mac version too :-) check out this site for more info http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org and an easy way to download the app... It's nice to see that IBM are one of the biggest clusters in terms of processing power devoted to it!
  • Hi

Ive just signed up. Long time reader, first time poster. Stmbling on this thread is whats made me sign up.

Ive been using a similar software for a couple of years now that does the same kind of thing.

In the interests of choice, you can get Folding@Home here: http://folding.stanford.edu/
This is the original one developed by stanford university. I think Google have started running it in their offices too.

Fingers crossed, wont be long before we get a cure for:
    Alzheimer's Disease
    Cancer
    Huntington's Disease
    Osteogenesis Imperfecta
    Parkinson's Disease
    Ribosome & antibiotics

Wierdly, they're all fairly connected and folding@home hopes to find the connection one day.
