Parking ticket in Portugal - HELP!!!!

Hi Guys,

Wondering if you could help.

Just got back from a trip to Portugal, (Tavira) and got a parking ticket while out there. To cut a long story short we nearly got towed away but got there while it was clamped. The space was for driving school but was really poorly signposted, (even the policeman said it was bad). We are going to appeal as the policeman said it would be worth it, (couldn’t cancel the fee as was already logged). Just wondered if anyone has appealed for a ticket in Portugal before and if so how they went about it? We have taken photos to send as evidence and think we know how we will write it but wondered if had any success or not?

Thanks

  • When you say "parking ticket", are we talking a council/local government issued ticket, or a glorified invoice from a private land owner?

If its the latter then whilst you were wrong to park there, are they really going to go through the cost and hassle of suing you to get their money?

What do you mean by this? Did you pay to have the clamp removed? If so, by what means did you pay?

It was a council issued one! I paid €60 in cash as that is what i had on me and if i didn't pay the car would be towed! The policeman advised me but i was wondering if anyone else has contested one... he said we prob have 90% chance to get our money back!!

I imagine when he returned to his car to find it in the process of being clamped, whoever had started the ticket/clamping process could not undo what they had started. i.e. it now had to be paid and appealed even if the cop on the scene said the signage was poor.
