ok now some on here will think i've lost it but here goes...finally got hubby's visa card under control last month paid it off infact but we agreed to
a) keep it for emergencies
b) reduce it's limit to as low as it can go(£500)
c) clear it off every month
thinking we could keep a handle on it ..well i've just looked at the statement online the next payment is dueon the 16th of next month and i need to find £240, worst of all is that i can still spend on the limit till the 2nd to make it into next months bill... so obviously were spending when we shouldn't be does anyone think i should just cut the blooming thing up so that temptation isn't there ..or can anyone offer advice on how to just use it for emergency purposes only?

I'd say pay it off if you're able to, if not pay off as much as you truly and honestly can, then pay the rest next month, dont spend anymore on it, and cut it up!
I dont think you should beat yourself up over it, but btw what was the emergency?Wealth is not measured by currency0 -
Cut it up!
Don't take this the wrong way el but you are clearly using it to overspend again if you are not able to pay it off in full.
I don't see the point in using it if it's not earning you any cashback or anything!0 -
Freeze it? (literally) I know some peole do this. Then you have to thaw it out if an emergency arises HTH:DYou - only you- will have stars that can laugh :rotfl:

elantan,
As CAFCGirl says - dont beat yourself up over it. We all have set backs. Try putting the credit card in a bowl of water and sticking it in the freezer. That way you'll have to make the effort to use it and this will give you the time to decide if you really need to use it or not.
Cheers,

What was the emergency?
If you didnt use it for a literal emergency, ie your house has burned down this covers a hotel, your car has broke down you cant tget to work,
then in all fairness, its not an emergnecy.
If you MUST have one for emergencies, then can you leave it with for example a relative, in a locked box. Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast :beer:0 -

Theres nothing wrong with buying tickets and what not. You still have to enjoy life. But the key is to budget for them!
Ark at me being whiter than white! :rotfl:
All I'm trying to say is don't start relying on the CC's again. If you can't afford to clear the balance every month then you are clearly overspending and even worse, you are on the slippery slope again! :eek:0 -
sorry i'm slow at typing i got as far as starry eyed surprise then posted ..lynz you are totally right maybe i should cut this one up and try to survive till after xmas then see if i can trust myself again ..infact just now thinking about xmas is starting to scare me ..like really scare me cause i don't know how i am going to manage not spending as much on people as i usually do ...but i have to if i wont to get out of debt0

Be fair on yourself Elantan, you havent been here that long, and you yourself have also said that you dont completely trust yourself.
You are right levellers tix are not a NEED they are a WANT, and you havent been able to resist, having the debt card there, you hve allowed yourself to buy them. I suggest geting rid of the blasted card, chopping it up, paying the balance and CLOSING THE ACCOUNT DOWN.
Incidentally- Why 7 tickets???? Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
