Homeless and Looking for Help and Advice

Hi
I'll be 23 in a little over a month and my parents kicked me out of the house and said that they want nothing to do with me again because I didn't get into university (school where I did my higher education course wouldn't give my grades to the university because I hadn't paid £50 and made no effort to contact me about it).
I suffer from avoidant personality disorder (a bit like agoraphobia), it makes life hard and when I told my parents about it they just told me to get over it. I don't have any friends who I could stay with and theres really no one I can talk to.
I've been sleeping rough for 2 days now and it was not even real sleep because I was scared of what would happen if I actually fell asleep.
I have a little over £1300 in my bank account and I was looking for places to stay but with my APD I can't stay in a house or flat share and I need a place to myself (I couldn't care less about size as long as i don't have to share a bathroom). There are tiny studio flats going for £400 in my area but the money I have won't last me very long. I am trying to look for jobs but it's not the easiest thing in the world right now. I am going to apply for more places but say that they can pay me 3/4 of their normal wage.
I'm feeling very depressed about all this especially because I feel like I will never be happy or successful (I wanted to be a marine engineer and I have the aptitude for it but I guess that it'll never be) and I sometimes feel that my parents actually had a point when they kicked me out because it's not like I've achieved anything in my life.
(I know the above paragraph doesn't go on this site but I felt the need to let it out)
I really need some help and advice and I hope you can help.
Thank-you

Have you spoken to Shelter? http://www.shelter.org.uk/
They may be able to help you access suitable accommodation.
Do you have any family ANYWHERE in the country who you might be able to stay with?
I also feel that a flatshare (although you will find this difficult) will be preferable to sleeping rough. You will have more success in finding a job if you have an address. Is there a support group for people with your condition?
Your parents were not right for kicking you out, whatever you did. You are vulnerable. Best wishes.0 -
Emmgray,
I am sorry about your circumstances. Do you have medication for this APD? If not may I suggest that you go to your GP asap to start medication and perhaps psychotherapy.
Next, please go to the C A B to see what they advise regarding accomodation. If you have Internet access please look at the Shelter website.
Good Luck, and keep writing/reading this board. People should be along soon to add their advice.Today, my BEST is good enough.0 -
go and see your doctor and ask them to refer you to social services as a vulnerable adult............Blackpool_Saver is female, and does not live in Blackpool0

in all fairness to the parents, we probably don't have the full story here, OP why did you choose to sleep rough when you have the means to pay for a B&B or hotel? even for a short time until you have taken advice from shelter and the benefits agency?
Please make that your next port of call...0 -
*hugs*
Phone Shelter on freephone 0808 800 4444 for advice and help on finding emergency housing.
Your local council should have someone you can speak to with regards to homelessness and how they can help you.
Also C.A.B. have dropin times where you can seek help on issues such as homelessness.
Do you have any friends who'll let you crash on their sofa for a few nights?0 -
The first thing you need to do is to approach your local authority homelessness department.
You dont say where you are: but if you ask at any police station they should be able to tell you where it is if you dont know ( or the town hall or other council office)
If you present as street homeless, tell them about your diagnosis. Let them know you would like self contained accomodation due to your health needs. they might be able to put you in contact with a private landlord- who will accept LHA ( Local housing allowance, benefit)
Or they should provide a hostel place for you ( I can imagine with your health needs this might not work for you) Have you ever had mental health support worker?
However, if you refuse any place they offer for you then this wil go against you and I dont recommend this. LHA should pay for this if you are eligible ( ie able to live and work in the uk)
If you are recieving no income at the moment once you get an address you should apply for Job seekers allowance or other benefits. However with no address it wont be easy to do this. Others might be able to offer more info on this.
If you let us know where ( which city) you are in then we might be able to find links to help you.
Can I ask how old you are? Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast :beer:0 -
JSA can be claimed without a permanent address. If you are recieving no income at the moment once you get an address you should apply for Job seekers allowance or other benefits. However with no address it wont be easy to do this. Others might be able to offer more info on this.

OP is 22 nearly 23 as stated in first post. Can be easily missed...;)
I would say if OP wants to become Marine Engineer then try joining the armed forces. Free education, somewhere to stay inclusive with pay. Fair to good rates of pay. Poor to begin with but it's more training rather than work.:footie:
Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S)
Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money.

Call the Samaritans - they help people experiencing a crisis and you will be able to get a lot off your chest.
http://www.samaritans.org/
Those in receipt of Local Housing Allowance (Housing benefit) under the age of 25 who are not disabled are eligible for a rate that covers the average price of a room in a shared property and it won't be sufficient to pay for a self-contained property. Many landlords will not accept tenants who are on benefits. You should speak to Shelter, Citizens Advice and your local council about your homelessness, plus Crisis as they help vulnerable tenants directly which is often better than a vulnerable tenant trying to deal with a private landlord who isn't equipped to help them with their larger issues. Crisis is also a good source of information

Hopefully you can come back to the forum after some of your short-term needs have been sorted out to tell us that you are in employment, in accommodation and have submitted a new UCAS application for next year. Obviously you are now in shock but all your issues are resolvable so do contact the experts who can support you.0 -
Sorry to hear of your situation, and look forward to you returning here to let us know of any progress that you've been able to make.
Can I ask why you needed to pay the school £50 to forward your grades onto the University? Which University? The schools as far as I know do not forward them on, but the Universities are provided with them via UCAS - I know that my son's university say they received the grades on the Sunday, when my son and the school received them on the Thursday. His confirmed offer was dated the Wednesday and was available on UCAS tracking BEFORE the school had access to the grades.
Was it just that the school wouldn't give YOU the grades because you had outstanding charges with the school and so had not signed out properly? I know my son's school do this in order to ensure they are paid anything owed by students for supplies, locker keys etc, return of text books etc. But......any students who don't necessarily want the piece of paper, can always get their grades via UCAS tracking, or from the individual examination websites.0
