I wondered if anyone has ever cooked a piece of ham in their slow cooker?
I have rather a large oven and really don't want to have to put it on for the ham. I cant do it this evening either as we are having 'Bubble & Squeak' tonight for dinner.
Many thanks for any replies...
(I have tried searching but unable to find anything specific about ham)

Hi MrsRodgers
I find ham/gammon is one meat that can become over cooked in the slow cooker, so be careful not to cook it for too long. I put it in, add boiling water, chunks of onion, carrots, celery, black peppercorns, a couple of cloves and a bay leaf and cook it for just three to four hours (although the timing will depend on the size of your joint) then take it out, remove the skin, cut diamond shapes into the fat, smother it in mustard and brown sugar, stud it with cloves and bake it in the oven until the glaze is browned. The stock from cooking the gamon is delicious so keep it and any leftover meat for making pea and ham or lentil soup.
This thread has lots more advice:
Cooking A Gammon Joint in the Slow Cooker
I'll add your thread to that one later to keep the advice together.

I have done it before with a gammon joint. I am very slap dash and just fling things in. What I did was wash the gammon in cold water for about 5 mins to remove alot of the saltyness, rough chop onions celery carrots and some baby potatoes put in the bottom of the SC with a cup of applejuice and cook for 6 hours on high. Result was a joint that literally flaked apart into little strips.
I think alot of people cook gammon with cola in the SC.MF aim 10th December 2020 :j:eek:MFW 2012 no86 OP 0/20000 -
I put a 1.5kg gammon section in the slow cooker with some water and left on all day whilst at work.
Came home and it was cooked to the point of falling to pieces. Boiled up some pots & veg and it made a lovely dinner.
Having read the other posts I maybe more organised next time.0
