Never call a DCA always contact them in writing so that you have proof.

A bit too late now, Called MBNA first and they said I will have to talk to DCA, and then I called DCA (CMC). The guy wasn't that friendly, just increased my stress but said can offer me 20% discount as a final & full settlement. He also said few months ago they tried to offer me 50% discount but couldn't get hold of me.

Another thing I discovered while trying to get organised with my financial things, a default notice letter issued by MBNA on the 22/09/2009. The default date on my credit file is 30/09/2009. I read somewhere that 14 days are required from the date I receive the notice. The letter is dated 22/09/09 but I could have received it few days later.

What can I do about this?

Send the debt collection agency/ MBNA a formal letter of complaint and then refer the complaint to the FOS because this will buy you some time.

The DCA will have to leave you alone while the FOS is looking at your complaint.
