Abysmal Royal Mail compensation system!!

Furious again with Royal Mail after over an hour on the phone with them chasing 4 compensation claims I submitted in late July which I had not heard from them about.

They told me they should have sent me a letter acknowledging reciept of the claims but for some reason it didn’t happen (on 4 occassions), that they had written to the addressees to seek their confirmation that the items were not received but had heard nothing back (for all 4 claims) and that they had closed the cases and again should have written to me but for some reason that didn’t happen either (on 4 occassions).

I subsequently contacted all 4 buyers, and each one confirmed they had received Royal Mail's letter and returned it to them promptly. On telling Royal Mail this they said the responses could be in their 4 week backlog of unopened mail!!! They however close a case and refuse compensation if responses are not received within 10 days....how stupid is that. They are actually closing down a compensation case when the letter they need from the addressee could be sitting in their own backlog of mail.

I am infuriated by this ridiculous system. It’s bad enough they loose stuff in the first place but then they have this Third World process to deal with compensation claims! I managed to get them to reopen all 4 cases and they are writing yet again to my customers....not happy with this as it inconveniences the customers further and those responses will also sit in the same backlog of mail.

Anyone know if we can take Small Claims Court Action against Royal Mail?

  • Surley you could get together with a bunch of other people who are having problems with the mail and issue action against them as a collective.

I would think a single person would be simply ignored by the RM, but a group of people with some newspaper involved would be very hard to the RM to ignore.

You can always email allan.leighton@royalmail.com he does reply and does what he can,

  • Very sorry you are having such problems. I had one lost item and had a refund chq and apology within about 6 weeks. I think it is so much a matter of luck!
I am very lucky with my rural post office, but don't know if that helps with claims. No, I won't reveal her identity :rotfl: - you would all be round there and cause a traffic jam!!..
