Hi,
We are expecting our first child soon and was wondering if anyone knew of any good places to get some decent nursery furniture from?? Have been looking round Mothercare, Mamas & Papas etc and seen some decent furniture but obviously fairly expensive.
I have looked on ebay for 2nd hand stuff and there is a little bit on there but also we dont want anything thats built cheaply as want to keep it for (fingers crossed) any children we are lucky to have in the future.
Anyone got any ideas or know of any good 2nd hand websites??
Thanks in advance

We found some great deals from Boots.com - with the advantage card points and discounts we got our cot for effectively half price. I have also just bought a pushchair from them for the equivalent of £135 instead of £220!!
If you go through Quidco there is currently a code to get 10% off when you spend over £50 on 'baby' (+ the usual cashback although this is only 1% if you are already a customer or 3.5% as a new customer), if you sign up to the Boots parenting club you will also receive 10% in points when you spend on baby items, also check out the Advantage card machines for further discount codes.
For second hand, NCT Nearly New sales are fantastic! http://www.nct.org.uk/in-your-area/nearly-new-sales0 -
As prev suggested the NCT nearly new sales are great. I got an immaculate mamas & papas cot for my LO for £25.
Also remember that things like a chest of drawers, cupboard or a chair don't have to be baby specific. We got a normal chest of drawers for all the clothes, a chair from ikea and a seperate changing table which will be used for any future children. We didn't bother with a wardrobe as baby clothes are so little they just went in drawers.
Our change table was from John Lewis for £59 and it's lasted really well and provides lot's of storage.

Ikea are good too.0 -
Try the local charity shops. I got a Mamas and Papas crib for 10 GBP0

I just bought plain furniture rather than nursery furniture. The older ones are 13 and 11 and they are still using the same furniture. It should last until they move out :money:Here I go again on my own....0

Keep an eye on the local paper classifieds as well (most of them do them online as well) - we got a fantastic John Lewis cot bed for £40 which had been barely used - the child had not that long since started using it and the family were emigrating. Its done us two kids, the youngest of which is still using it at age 3 despite its occasional use as a trampoline!Adventure before Dementia!0

Hi we got a solid pine wardrobe and a mama and papas drawers from netmums. You can pick up lots of decent things on there.Married 09/09/090

I bought a solid beech cot-bed and changing table/unit on ebay, for £50 & £25- Both look brand new and are very solid, the new cost for a simular quality pair in Mothercare was £600! I would suggest keeping an eye on there as it changes all the time.
Gumtree is another site where people advertise baby bits, and the NCT nearly new sales are brilliant.
From a car boot I got a bundle- Moses Basket &stand (and all the inserts), curtains with tie-backs, light shade, cot bumper, bouncy chair, changing mat, nappy holders thingy, All matching from the babies-R-Us range for £15! Some of it still had tags on, it was barely used! People sometimes just want the room so flog stuff cheaply.
I agree the for the wardrobe/drawers etc you are better off with normal furniture- They may look cute, but hold next to nothing and dont really grow with your little one. You can alway stencil/use stickers to make them more nursery like.
When is the baby due? I've got 9 weeks left and we are just doing up the nursery, its great fun!Right now I'm having amnesia and deja- vu at the same time. I think I've forgotten this before0 -
Try Ikea, we got our cot and wardrobe for our baby's room there. They are great and very sturdy. I'll see if I can post a link for you.
The wardrobe is lovely, I really like it - its got a large drawer and some shelves inside so it is great for storage.
The cot is not the prettiest but you can dress it up with nice bedding, I am very happy with it.

Top tips for the nearly new sales:
- Get there at least 30 mins before it starts to join the queue
- remember your chequebook or cash (most can't process credit cards)
- make a list of stuff you want before you go
- if possible take someone else to help esp of you buy a cot as it's so bulky you won't be able to carry it round with you to look at other things.
Hope you get some bargins0
