Royal Albert China - How much

Don't know if this is the best place to post this.

My gran has gave me some Royal Albert China, a dinner set just now but she has tea sets etc as well. All in good condition as they have been sitting in her china cabinet for years.

I was just wondering if it is worth anything if i was to sell it? or is it better to keep it for a few more years. Also I have no idea where are the best places to sell china any info would be great thanks.

  • Love Royal Albert, try googling for an idea of prices if you know the design.

Did she know you want to sell it - maybe she sees it as a bit of an inheritance to be passed along.

  • She is getting on a bit now so she keeps clearing out bits and pieces of her house and passing it on to me but she has said if I don't want any of the things then just to sell them on they would be worth some money.

It's not so much that I don't want them I just can't see them staying in one piece if I were to look after them!

A lot depends on the pattern, Old Country Rose is always worth more. Personally though I'd stick it in the loft and forget about it for a few years.

If you are thinking of Ebay another issue to consider is postage. China is heavy and needs a lot of packaging making it more expensive still. Royal Mail and any other carrier will not insure it for you.

I saw 46 pieces of Old country Rose items go for £60 at auction last week. Those 46 pieces included tureens and soup bowls as well as a teapot and dinner plates. I had marked them down as a possible purchase but they went over my upper limit, 21 pieces went on ebay within the last month for £49.

If you like them, why not use them. A new equivalent quality service would be far more expensive according to the above posts. If you get odd breakages you could always look on ebay for replacements.

I agree, antique items are often cheaper than new stuff from Ikea. My son is using Doulton Alma pattern plates at uni that are well over 100 years old as they worked out at around 30p a plate at auction. He's even got huge serving platters that would grace a Victorian table, and then uses it for kebabs!

I recently sold a dinner service for £170, a teaset for £70 and a soup tureen for £45. They were Moonlight Rose.

I was surprised at how much interest there was.

I have a set of English Beauty 12cups saucers and T plates (Royal Albert) from around the 1940's not many about but Ive always thought they were worth zilch because no one wants them any more.

This pattern was, I believe a forerunner of the Old Country Roses but a lot less busy.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.
