Finding policy numbers

I am about to take up the challenge of trying to reclaim my PPI back from various cards. I have really only ever had 1 card with debt on it at any one time and have transferred balance between 4 cards to benefit from 0% interest periods. Trouble is, I don’t have any paperwork for the earliest cards and thus don’t know my account/policy numbers (having ‘chopped’ the cards up as well), which I need for the FOS questionnaire in obtaining my original policy details/documents.

What is the easiest way to obtain this information? I’m pretty sure that they won’t give me that info if I phone and can only provide my name etc.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you

Luke

    Hi Luke and welcome.

Right what you could do is request a SAR (Subject access Request), if with the same company they should provide all the data they still hold on the account going back the last 6 years at least.
If the companies are separate, you therefore request a SAR from each company, for example if you had taken out one card or more with the same company send them a SAR, if with various companies one to each (not for each credit card).

There is a letter template for this, if you've no account number give them as many personal details as possible, full name, date of birth, the dates you taken them out if you remember, and any addresses you lived in at the time.
You enclose £10 cheque or postal order payment, and they have 40 calendar days to comply, try to get proof for posting at your post office as well.

The other way is to try to request for the copies of the agreements, they charge £1 cheque or postal order for each one, if the accounts are still running, there is a chance you will obtain them, just write a simple letter, request they send you a copy of the agreement, as stated above if you've no account number give them as many details as possible, then request they supply by 12-14 days.

Hope this helps, good luck and if you require any further help, just give us a yell.;)

  • I don’t want to unnecessarily bump a thread, but I just wanted to say THANK YOU. J

I think that all the cards should be active so I will go with the 2nd option.

I was thinking of going with a company to do this for me, but having not seen anything good said about them and the fact that they now seem to be constantly phoning me (do they share possible ‘client’ info, because I have literally went from 1 random call every few months to 2 or 3 a week) and using slimy sales tactics (I was a salesman and I despised being told to use these tactics myself) I think I’ll give it a shot myself.

    Thanks again
