Even if they DID do this, would you then be saying that you didn't check your email and it's their fault and they should spend the little bit of time and money needed to make an automated phone call to remind you?
Where do you stop blaming the lender and start to take personal responsability for your mistake?
I don't really appreciate your aggressive tone.
If you bothered to read my posts properly you'd see that I've clearly stated more than once that I accept responsibility for my actions. You'd also see that I previously explained I had no reason to check my account as in my mind I had paid all outstanding balances and the card had been sitting in a drawer ever since.
My grievance is with the fact that every other online bank and credit card company I have ever used has had the courtesy to keep me in the loop about things via email, letters (even when I have opted not to receive paper-based statements) or even via text message. On the other hand, the only contact I have ever received from MBNA aside from email reciepts for payments I've made to them is promotional material through my letter box trying to sell me stuff. That they don't do something to help their customers which the majority of other banks and credit card companies do, something that doesn't cost them anything because automated emails, text messages or recorded messages would be very easy and cheap to set up, is poor customer service IMO.
Is that ok with you?0 -
I really think it comes down to, should it be compulsory for card companies to send out some form of contact with customers if a payment is made on an expired/closed down credit card.0

I would agree with that.
However, in this case, it seems that the cards were still alive and kicking, just a little dormant.0 -
Have you received monthly e-mails (ever since the first CPA was presented in July) telling you your monthly statement had been produced and were available to view online?danslenoir wrote: »...I don't get paper statements and hadn't received any emails telling me about the situation
Did you choose to ignore these e-mails because you didn't think you had a balance?
What if there had been some fraudulent transactions on your account? Would you then be complaining about these some months down the line?
I have an Egg Money credit card that is fairly dormant, but I ALWAYS check my online statement each month when I receive the e-mail reminder. Prevention is always better than the cure.0 -

No. No emails saying my statements were available for viewing.0 -
I can understand your frustration, but have to agree with most of what people are saying here - you should be checking your account at least every month just to ensure it's all in order - I tend to check my accounts on a weekly basis - sometimes more frequently.
Just because you haven't received an email doesn't mean that everything is OK on your card/account. What if the emails had been sent to your junk folder or your email address was incorrect on their systems? Or, what if your card details had been abused and fraudulent transactions been made with your card details?
End of the day, I check my accounts for my own peace of mind and because I know that no system is infallible and errors made tend end up being in "favour" of the creditor and not in my favour! My posts are my own opinions based on my experiences and info gathered from sites such as this.
They are not a substitute for professional financial advice - but you knew that already didn't you?
