Hello I am just looking for some advice really.
Im 26 and on income support and i am also getting DLA for mental heath. I have one dependant, hes 7 and in school. I wanted to return to study and I am wondering what affect this will have on my money. I have applied for a full time course at Belfast met, but i really don’t know where i stand.
I know really know what i can get, if anything. I have applyed to collage and have saved for a laptop. I hope to study for a degree the following year to work helping people with mental health issues.

You can claim DLA whether you are studying or working. You should be able to carry on claiming IS whilst doing a non advanced course but, once you start a full time degree, your student loan and grants will be used to assess your eligibility for any means tested benefits, although your DLA will carry on.0

Hi .
What is it you would like to study ?
Have you heard of NORTH CITY TRAINING , they are based in the belfast area and have some really good courses.
My daughter is currently enrolled in their childcare course and is loving it .
You would get a non means tested training allowance of £40 , you re-claim travel expenses (up to £10.50 per week) and the allowance is disregarded when receiving other benefits ie your income support etc.
Check it out .
Sorry , edited to add that i gave just noticed that you want to train to work with people with mental illnesses .0
