DLA and Collage?

Hello I am just looking for some advice really.
Im 26 and on income support and i am also getting DLA for mental heath. I have one dependant, hes 7 and in school. I wanted to return to study and I am wondering what affect this will have on my money. I have applied for a full time course at Belfast met, but i really don’t know where i stand.

I know really know what i can get, if anything. I have applyed to collage and have saved for a laptop. I hope to study for a degree the following year to work helping people with mental health issues.

  • You can claim DLA whether you are studying or working. You should be able to carry on claiming IS whilst doing a non advanced course but, once you start a full time degree, your student loan and grants will be used to assess your eligibility for any means tested benefits, although your DLA will carry on.

    Hi .

What is it you would like to study ?

Have you heard of NORTH CITY TRAINING , they are based in the belfast area and have some really good courses.

My daughter is currently enrolled in their childcare course and is loving it .

You would get a non means tested training allowance of £40 , you re-claim travel expenses (up to £10.50 per week) and the allowance is disregarded when receiving other benefits ie your income support etc.

    Check it out .

Sorry , edited to add that i gave just noticed that you want to train to work with people with mental illnesses .
