Hi
This is for my 17yr old
He signed up to an online game using his visa debit card. The site on his bank statement is "square enix playon". Anyway, he cancelled within time as he had a months free trial. However, on his statement they have taken 2 months out amounting to £17.68. This made him go overdrawn although the bank never charged him. He banks with Lloyds.
We have e-mailed this firm requesting they refund him, but they haven`t replied.
Is he covered at all by his bank or by visa? if so, how do we go about getting this charge refunded.
This wasnt a direct debit but i presume a continous payment until cancelled, which he did.
Many thanks

It seems to be a continous authority payment and only the company can stop asking for payments as the bank will not have any record of it.
Check first whether in the terms and conditions of the site whether players have to be over the age of 18 (any debt under this age is not enforceable).
If this is the case then threaten them with trading standards unless they cancel and refund your son.
If any more debits are taken get your son to do a chargeback. Phone card services and say that an unauthorised transaction has taken place and you want it refunded.(You may have to be quite firm as they may not want to do this in the first instance)
Finally have a word with your son and teach him about the consequences of giving out card numbers to any site willy nilly.0 -
